Banner is a dom that is looking to master a slave and Kate isn’t sure what to do with that information. Having just been introduced to the BDSM world, she isn’t sure what that means but she isn’t OK with the word “slave” and being subjected to a strange male’s every whim. Because that’s what being a slave is about, right? Mostly, Kate wants to figure out if a real-life dom/sub relationship matches her fantasies as well as find the right match (dom) for her needs.
Banner knows that Kate isn’t the right fit for what he desires but is intrigued, nonetheless. She has a rebellious streak that would normally be a turn-off but there’s something about her that rubs him the right way (no pun intended). So in an attempt to help her find the right partner, Banner decides to help Kate better understand the roles of a good sub through practice.
Kate is strong-willed and independent so it was interesting to see her transformation into a submissive. In reality, she was a sub all along but watching her fight it and simultaneously accept it made for another interesting layer to add to the overall storyline.
The sex scenes felt natural and unforced. Beckett wasn’t trying to teach readers about BDSM in this novel; she was just trying to tell a story that just so happened to work incredibly well feeding off of the BDSM lifestyle (that also made for incredibly intense – and hot – sex scenes). Even if you’re not into BDSM Romances or if this might be your first, having Kate be introduced to this semi-secret world helps any kind of reader not be overwhelmed with any BDSM-specific practices.
Finding Master Right was one of the best books I have read all year and it was all about that connection between Kate and Banner. I devoured it in one sitting based off of that connection alone, dying for more interaction between the two. Although they felt they weren’t a right match from the start and did a damn good job at trying to fight those base urges, there was really no denying that spark from the very beginning.
I also enjoyed that there was no time wasted. The plot moved along steadily and the content was filled purposefully. The only thing I struggled with was the ending (no spoilers!) because I struggled to see if it was a necessary component for the novel/progression of Kate and Banner’s relationship. Even then, it didn’t have a negative effect on my overall appreciation for Finding Master Right.
If you’re into BDSM Romances, you need to pick this up. If you’re into Contemporary and BDSM curious (just the novels, people), pick this up. Basically, you need to read this book. It’s too good to keep on your TBR pile.
